Up Canals Feasibility Study

  SWANSEA,  NEATH and TENNANT CANALS

An informal partnership of voluntary and statutory bodies is looking in detail at the possible future of the waterways in the Neath and Swansea areas.

It is proposed that the historic Swansea, Neath and Tennant Canals, together with the Tawe River Navigation, would be linked to form a 35 mile regional waterway. Obstructions would be removed from the  Swansea and Neath Canals. New canals would be built at Swansea Vale and Swansea Waterfront. The Brunel Dock at Briton Ferry would  be linked to the Neath Canal.

At the heart of the waterway would be Swansea Marina, Swansea Museum, the National Waterfront Museum for Wales, and  SA1 Swansea Waterfront.

The Swansea Community Boat Trust is following the proposals with interest.
